Thoughts
on Mother's Day (21 pages; no abstract) – Expanded notes
from a talk I gave in a church service to celebrate Mother's Day
some years ago. I prepared these at the request of a few people
who wanted a copy of my talk.
Douglas
Willard Paxman Memorial Service (17 pages; no abstract) –
Expanded notes from an address I gave at my Uncle Willard's memorial
service. I lived with him and my Aunt Hazel as a teenager for one
year, and continue to have great respect and admiration for both
of them and their children. I was honored to be asked to speak about
his life, and to pay my personal respects to him and his family
in that way. I also prepared these in response to requests for copies
of my talk.
Barefoot
to Zion (15 pages; no abstract) – Written to be used to
promote a play by the same name our Stake put on a couple of years
ago. This document was specifically designed to be distributed to
non-members of the LDS Church toward whom the play was primarily
directed. That is, this document and the play itself were supposed
to introduce people to the Church, and to encourage them to meet
with the missionaries and eventually commit to Church membership
and all that it entails. The contrast between what I wrote here
and what I came to believe a short time later still takes my breath
away. We can be conditioned to believe almost anything if we are
kept in an information vacuum, and I will never again underestimate
the importance of perspective.
Remarks
by Bob McCue at the Missionary Farewell of Brayden McCue (4
pages) – This talk was given approximately one year before
I resigned my membership in the Church. Once again, from my current
vantage point I find the difference in perspective chilling.
